The Pxtch Fashion Show

It's a dream come true.

But what really comes into this was 10 years of 'atras-abante', will this work?, will people accept this? Will this be good enough?

Growing up I never understood why I like Cinderella's ball scene . I even tried to draw my own version of Cinderella's gown. When I was on my graduating year at high school, I confided to my friend that I wanted to study fashion design at UP Diliman, she said that it was a rich man course, I believed her, my mother a policewoman, was struggling to send six of us to school, our eldest was fresh out of college, she also needed to review for the CPALE.

I studied how algorithms and mathematical equation solve real-life problems.

Still, I never stopped my self from loving design. How colors and logo and illustrations, made me love pinterest, deviantart and other blogsites and websites that talks about the elevation of designs, i love reading about it.

How photography, fonts, web designing and others art related contents that could elevate my appreciation on these things.

I am really fascinated with the art of dream weaving, how I find it magical and eerie. That is why when I was waiting for companies to call me, I volunteered to become a weaver at our local cottage industry at Cooperative Handicrafts Industry of Nabunturan months later I started my career at being an IT instructor.

After, I went home, volunteered again at CHAIN, mam Leah found me and my skills.

I started logo designing for tourism related activities, commanded the muncipality of Nabunturan to wear colors during the its inception day celebrations and developed its website. Almost three years, I served the municipality, marketing films and its tourism related activities but fate have its own funny way of diverting you to paths unknown, I become a public teacher, teaching media and information literacy, and the arts.

Last year, out of brokenness, I embraced my own uniqueness, I came back and launched myself become my own artist, together with the help of the LGU Nabunturan we created an installation art called Pukot sa Pangandoy. Two months after its feature I have launched the Pxtch Project, a t-shirt brand dedicated to the revival of the culture of weaving here in Nabunturan.

Last Monday(September 25, 2023), I was given the opportunity by Davao de Oro Provincial Tourism Office and the Province of Davao De Oro to present The Pxtch together with different rookie and professional designers all around Davao De Oro.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Mam Xtin Dompr, the Provincial Government of Davao De Oro, and the Department of Trade and Industry - Davao De Oro Office for opening its doors and for giving artist like me a platform to showcase our works.

To Madame Leah Bugas Mesiona Calamba, a Tourism Leadership awardee, who always believe in Nabunturanon talents, like mine, daghan kaayong salamat.

To Ate Lynette Talo, who always provide guidance how to work with the weaves, daghan kaayong salamat, daghan pa ko utang nimo.

Ate Bebing

Ate Lisa,

and to the weavers, sewers and braiders of the Cooperative Handicraft Industry of Nabunturan, salamat. The cottage will always be a home to me.

Pukot sa Pangandoy

Art is sustenance, says Ethan Hawke in his Ted talk entitled, Give yourself permission to be creative. I never considered myself artist. The only thing, I am artistically inclined to was developed a love for photography and the art of handwriting. Others artistic skills like singing or dancing was abandoned because of 1, I messed up trying out for a school choir during my younger years at Nabunturan Central Elementary School or 2, they don't need another loud gay kid in the production.

Anyhow, I started loving the graphic arts and web coding, but what made me choose not to develop more of my creative artistic skills was because of series of experiences that invalidates me as an artist. but we will not discuss that experiences. I will share what transpired to push me to decided to create this installation art entitled, Pukot sa Pangandoy.

It really stemmed from the different articles that I've been reading since, and it was in this year January that it piqued my interest to push through with this project when Philstar wrote about Dreamless Pinoy.

Pukot sa Pangandoy, again, is an installation art that aims to be a platform for the discussion about dreams. This interactive installation art is anchored on a study done by the Dream Project PH that stated 8 out of 10 Filipino Teenagers don't have dreams.

It is said that an aspiration is a core value of successful people, but having a society with collective aspiration will surely build a nation into greatness. According to a nine-year study that was done by Dream Project PH, 8 out of 10 Filipino teenagers don’t have dreams. It was also stated that one of the five reasons why these teenagers don’t have dreams is the “lack of conversation” about dreams. (https://www.philstar.com/business/2022/01/14/2153698/dreamless-pinoys/amp/) This becomes an alarming issue that involves a generation that has the power to either make or break the civilization’s future.

In this year’s “Sining ng Pag-asa”, one of its highlights is the “Pukot sa Pangandoy” by Richard Arellano. This installation art explores the idea of starting the conversation about dreams and aspirations, Pukot sa Pangandoy aims to spark discussion not only for the youth but for the Nabunturanons as a whole.

Binibining Nabunturan 2021 Official Candidates

The wait is over. Binibining Nabunturan's official Facebook Page has officially announced their candidates for this year's pageant. There were 20 hopefuls and they were narrowed down to 12. These 20 hopefuls were students and young professionals. The audition took place at the ABC Hall of the Municipality of Nabunturan last May 15, 2021.

1. Carla Mae Arabejo, is a student from the College of Accounting and Business Education of the University of Immaculate Conception.

2. Ledafe Ayco is one of the 2019 Binibining Nabunturan hopefuls. She dreams of becoming a registered social worker. She is currently studying at Davao Del Norte State College.

3. Kiessha Queen Dalde, stands 5 feet and 6 inches tall. A senior high school graduate who took the Humanities and Social Sciences strand at Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School - Integrated Senior High School.

4. Diana Manuela Dianco, likes to be called Diane. She is 18 years old, who hails from the gateway of the heArt of the Valley, Baranggay Mipangi.

5. Christine Joy Lape is currently studying at Davao Merchant Marine Academy College of Southern Philippines.

6. Trisha Joy Lanes, is fondly called Shang-shang. She is studying at Assumption College of Nabunturan.

7. Jakilyn Mulla is an 18 year old lass from Baranggay Sta Maria. She is an Accounting and Business Management strand student at the Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School Integrated Senior High School. Her close friends call her Kilyn.

8. Kimberly Jane Narvasa is an educator by profession, Kimmy stands 5 feet and 4 inches tall. She is from Baranggay Manat.

9. Shannen May Nisnisan, is the Second Runner Up of the 2018 Binibining Nabunturan. She is taking up Tourism Management at Davao Del Norte State College. She is the older sister of the 2019 Binibining Nabunturan Sweetsel Rhose Nisnisan.

10. Jerrylyn Opello is from Baranggay Sasa. She is studying Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics in Compostela Valley State College- Montevista Branch.
